French

French at Wesley Christian AcademyThe goal of the Primary (Grades 1-3) French program at Wesley Christian Academy is to provide a strong foundation for ongoing language studies and to foster a positive attitude towards learning the French language and culture. This is achieved through songs, rhymes, games, interactive Smartboard activities as well as listening to books read in French and exploring elementary French literature firsthand. Children, with a variety of learning styles, are engaged at their individual level.

In the Junior Division (Grades 4-6), the core French program is divided into three areas: Oral Communication, Reading and Writing. Oral or spoken French is reinforced with reading and writing activities that correspond to and/or exceed Ontario Ministry expectations.

In the Intermediate Division (Grades 7-8), the core French program strengthens and builds on the grammar and vocabulary taught in previous sections. Students learn new verbs, conjugations, and adjectives essential for the development of functional French competency. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to understand the French spoken in the classroom, participate in discussions on a wide variety of topics, read and write short texts.
