As part of the grade four social studies Ancient Egypt unit, the students created a cartouche. A cartouche is an oval frame that surrounds the hieroglyphs of a royal person’s name. There are three parts to a cartouche: the frame, the stand and a rope that binds the stand and frame together. Each student made his/her own papyrus using paper maché and then wrote his/her name using hieroglyphs. The grade fours did an excellent job with this ancient form of writing and their colourful cartouches were creatively done! For more pictures, check out our Facebook post.
