This morning, the Grade 3 class listened to Mrs. Harley read Because I Love You by Max Lucado, as part of their Bible lesson. This story is about a wise man who builds a wall around the village to protect his children from the darkness of the surrounding forest. He sets boundaries for the children but when one disobeys and leaves the village through a hole in the wall, he sets off to find him and bring him back to the village upon hearing his cries for help. At various points throughout the story, Mrs. Harley asked the students about any connections they were making to their own life, predictions as to what would happen next, as well as inferences. The students understood the parallels in the story to God’s love for each of us and how He wants us to choose to obey and love him, within the boundaries He has set out for us.
Next, the students pulled out their Bible journals. Many of them already had a picture of a heart with the verse from John 3:16 coloured, cut, and pasted in their books. They were asked to write things they could do to share God’s love with the people around them. Some definitely put some careful thought into this assignment. Others shared Bible verses. Here are a few examples.
Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love…love for each other as well as recognizing God’s love for us and being his hands and feet to show others that love. Today, the grade 3 class reflected on how to do just that.
