House Teams

Mr. Adams was one of the school’s first supporters even before it became a school. He loaned $5,000 to help start Some Place Special Christian Day Care, which later became Wesley Christian Academy. He also donated his time, talent, and energy to WCA. He built the oak cross that now hangs in our cafeteria, where we have chapel on Friday mornings. He also built the wooden lecterns from which presentations are often made at various school events. He even built the first baby gates that were used in the daycare. According to Mrs. Serio, our principal, Mr. Adams was a kind and gentle man, the type of grandfather you wished every child had. Mr. Adams was also the father of Marjorie Osborne, for whom another WCA house is named. Members of the Adams House compete in inter-house competition under the name Adams Ignite. This is a subset of our school-wide name for our sports teams, the Wesley Wildfire. The fire theme relays to our desire to have the love of Christ burn in our hearts so we can shine for our Lord. The official colour for the Adams House is green, one of the four colours of our school crest.

The Buchanan House is named after Mr. John Buchanan who owned the property adjacent to the Lee Avenue building used by Some Place Special Christian Day Care, before it became Wesley Christian Academy. Mr. Buchanan was a wonderful neighbour who shared his property with the school for playtime, school BBQs, track and field and other activities. The entire school family often gathered on his property for events. He kept his land clean and well maintained, with the students in mind. He was always willing to lend tools and equipment to the school whenever it was needed. Our millennium yearbook was dedicated to him. Members of the Buchanan House compete in inter-house competition under the name Buchanan Blaze. This is a subset of our school-wide name for our sports teams, the Wesley Wildfire. The official colour for the Buchanan House is blue, one of the four colours of our school crest.

The Fry House is named after Dr. Ronald Fry. He was the District Superintendent for Canada for the Church of the Nazarene and sponsored the start of the elementary school for Some Place Special Christian Day Care. His support and leadership were critical in the early years of the growth and development of the school. Members of the Fry House compete in inter-house competition under the name Fry Flames. This is a subset of our school-wide name for our sports teams, the Wesley Wildfire. The fire theme relays to our desire to have the love of Christ burn in our hearts so we can shine for our Lord. The official colour for the Fry House is purple, one of the four colours of our school crest.

The Osborne House is named after Mrs. Marjorie Osborne. She was the founding board member for Some Place Special Christian Day Care (which later became Wesley Christian Academy) and the impetus behind “Target Toronto”, an initiative of the Church of the Nazarene to start different ministries in the areas of childcare and education in Toronto. Mrs. Osborne is also the daughter of Mr. William H. Adams, for whom another one of the Houses at Wesley is named after. Members of the Osborne House compete in inter-house competition under the name Osborne Sparks. This is a subset of our school-wide name for our sports teams, the Wesley Wildfire. The fire theme relays to our desire to have the love of Christ burn in our hearts so we can shine for our Lord. The official colour for the Osborne House is gold (or yellow), one of the four colours of our school crest.
