Care & Share Days

At the end of each month, one class or grade in the elementary school leads the effort to raise funds or collect items to help a charity in our local or global community. This event is called “Care & Share Day”. Wesley students are allowed to wear “casual clothes” on Care & Share Day in exchange for loonies and toonies or requested items (e.g. non-perishable food item for a food pantry, shoeboxes full of school supplies and Christmas gifts for less fortunate children, etc).  Different charities are chosen to represent diverse projects in order to give our students awareness of local and global needs and to help them realize that effort from children and youth make a difference. More importantly, we want to encourage them to participate with a loving and servant heart. Over the years, we have supported organizations such as the following:

• Water Ambassadors Canada – to collect funds for drilling water wells to ensure clean water in developing countries
• Samaritan’s Purse – Operation Christmas Child – to fill and collect Christmas Shoe Boxes for children in need around the world
• Markham Food Bank – to provide non-perishable food items for our local food bank
• Victims Services of York Region – to provide a Christmas hamper for a family (or two) suffering from domestic violence
• Markhaven Home for Seniors – to support a visit to a local seniors’ home, during which our students sing, read and colour with seniors
• CTV & Salvation Army’s Toy Mountain – to collect funds which our students use to purchase toys for children in need
• True North Aid – to collect funds to help northern Indigenous communities in Canada
• The Centre for Dreams – to collect funds to help support a day program located within walking distance of Wesley for adults with disabilities
