Today, the Grade 6 class participated in a program through Junior Achievement, the largest youth business education organization in Canada, whose goal is “to equip and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy.” The program, called “Dollars with Sense” was delivered to them by John Errington, my dad, a financial advisor with Edward Jones and volunteer facilitator with Junior Achievement. This program expanded on many concepts in the mathematics and social studies curriculum, and helped the students gain more knowledge and awareness towards money sense, budgeting, investments, and other areas of financial literacy.

The day was organized like a mini workshop, with students receiving a workbook each that took them through various independent and group activities, involving lots of participation, discussion, drama activities, and games. The students had fun during the day and learned new financial skills to help make sense of money. Likewise, Mr. Errington very much enjoyed his time with the class and looks forward to coming back again!
