“Cookies for a Cause” – One WCA Family’s Fundraising Efforts for Walk-a-thon

We are currently in the second of our three week 2025 Walk-a-thon fundraising campaign. We have an ambitious goal to raise $40,000 for items such as

  • Additional library series of books for primary and junior students
  • Safety enhancements for our parking lot and ELC playground
  • Upgrade to our HVAC as the software is no longer supported
  • Additional commercial oven
  • Sports tent – canopy and sports jerseys
  • Refrigeration unit for ice cube making
  • Retractable screens for the gym

Today, we would like to share the efforts of one family in our Wesley community that has taken our fundraising needs to heart. Last year was their first year at Wesley and they were inspired by the “Baker with a Purpose” post that featured a Grade 7 Wesley student who raised money for the 105 Gibson Centre by baking a variety of sweet treats. They incorporated that idea into their own “Cookies for a Cause” campaign to raise money for Wesley. Their approach was simple but effective. Mom baked cookies to sell at the family’s chiropractic and rehab clinic, Dad made posters and signage, and oldest son (then in Grade 2) pitched the fundraising campaign to clients at the clinic. Last year, they raised $375.

This year, the family reinstated the “Cookies for a Cause” campaign and recruited their youngest son, who just started in Grade 1 at Wesley. After receiving coaching and training from big brother, the younger sibling spent Saturday, September 27th, at the clinic making his appeal. He raised $305! Older brother will have his turn to put his best foot forward at the clinic on Saturday, October 11th!

We are very thankful for this family’s initiative, group effort, and example in helping with our 2025 Walk-a-thon fundraising campaign. As a not-for profit charitable organization, fundraising is a critical part of Wesley Christian Academy’s financial stability. Student tuition covers teachers’ salaries and some basic operational costs. However, maintenance, upgrades to existing equipment and resources, or their complete replacement requires significant outside funding. At Wesley, we only have one major fundraising event per year, and we are very appreciative of everyone’s collective effort in this matter. We can only reach our goal with God’s grace and if we work together.

Thank you!!!
