Today’s ELC Chapel Service – October 17, 2025

Our JK2 class was in charge of this morning’s ELC chapel service. Mrs. Seto opened up with a word of prayer, asking God to prepare our hearts for worship. With the help of Mrs. Griffith, representatives from the class led the pledges, O Canada and the Lord’s Prayer.

Mrs. Seto opened up the time of musical worship with a familiar and energetic song – “It’s About L-O-V-E, Love” by Jana Alayra. Students sang and did the actions with enthusiasm. Next, she introduced two version of the song “Give a Little Kindness”. Even though the children were not familiar with it, they watched, swayed and followed the actions as best as they could.

After the songs, Mrs. Seto asked the students to guess the theme for today. Many guessed correctly – Love and Kindness. She shared that her class has been learning about this important subject. She asked some important questions like – “Does God still want us to be kind to others who are not so nice?” and “Do you realize that we are not so nice to God sometimes?”. She continued to explain that when we are not kind and disobey God, we are doing something called “sin”. She also shared that even though we have sinned, God still sent His son to die for us. He did not wait for humanity to “get our act together” before saving us. Mrs. Seto explained that God knows that we are going to sin but if we ask His Helper, the Holy Spirit, to help us, we can be kind more often. The Holy Spirit allows us to stop, think and helps us to make a better choice. Mrs. Seto then asked a few students to give examples of how we can be kind. Some replied, “by sharing toys, by using kind words, by saying thank you and telling our parents we love them”. Mrs. Seto also gave examples from her classroom. She talked about how a student was assigned a new classroom job but he wasn’t sure how to do it. The class used encouraging words to support him and they also chose a helper for him so that they could do the task together. In another example, one student showed a classmate how to zip up a coat while another showed a friend how to untangle some toys that were bunched up together.

Mrs. Seto brought it all together saying that God can help us too because when we receive Jesus as our Saviour, He never leaves us and His helper, the Holy Spirit, is with us too! She also reminded the students that while we were sinners, God gave us Jesus and the Holy Spirit! He loves us that much!

To conclude, Mrs. Seto played the video of a song called “Kind Like Christ”. As it played, the students were completely absorbed by the lyrics and the visuals. Words such as “build the earth with service and good deeds”, and “the world needs more kindness” echoed throughout the short song. At the end, many students could be heard saying “Again…again!!!”.

Mrs. Seto did not have time to show the video again but she did pray for everyone. She asked God to help us practice kindness not only to those we like, to step up to be kind, and to do what is right in His eyes.
