Our service this morning was led by Chapel Team 3. After singing O Canada, saying the Lord’s Prayer and listening to the Land Acknowledgement, the chapel team led a time of musical worship with the song “Cry of My Heart”.

This week, Mr. Bailey took on the role of “Professor STEM-ERNIUS” and used an “air cannon” science experiment to engage the students and continue to explore the theme about armouring up with justice. With great skill and intrigue, Professor STEM-ERNIUS” walked the students through the different stages of the experiment. At each stage, the students had a short period of time to discuss each step with their seat partners. Then, they finally watched the experiment and observed how an air canon made with a bucket, duct tape, plastic tubing and sheet of plastic could emit enough force to knock over a stack of cups. Professor STEM – ERNIUS later explained that when the piece of plastic is hit with the tubing, it collides with the air inside the bucket, and sends the air flying toward the opening at the bottom of the container. However, the hole to the outside is smaller than the pocket of air trying to get out. Air molecules on the edge brush against the side of the hole as they squeeze out, so that air moves more slowly and curls backward. This creates a vortex, or swirling mass of air, that holds together as it moves out of the cannon and toward the target!

Before the Professor could explain how the air cannon is connected to armouring up with justice, there was a break to sing the next worship song, “Everyday”.
Professor STEM-ERNIUS then explained that the air cannon experiment helps us to know why it is important to armour up with justice. He recapped that to armour up with justice means to know and do the right thing. The invisible power of the cannon is “knowing the right thing” while the precision and force of the vortex is “doing the right thing”. Mr. Bailey then explained that knowing the right thing comes from having wisdom which can be found though the following:
- Reading the Bible
- Having Godly Mentors
- Holy Spirit
The Chapel Team then led the audience in singing a third song, “Shine on Me”. After the song, Mr. Bailey continued his message and shared the importance of not just knowing the right thing but doing the right thing. Just like the air in the cannon must be initiated to create the vortex, we must take action and make the choice to do what is right by God. He then shared Micah 6:8 and to explain how to do that –
- Act justly – help in situations where help is needed
- Love mercy – show kindness
- Walk humbly with God – act and love more like Jesus – which also means learning more about Jesus
Mr. Bailey ended in prayer, asking God to train our eyes to see what is right and to help us take on the role to help lift up those who are stepped on or stepped over. The Chapel Team then concluded the service by leading everyone in the benediction.
