Today’s ELC Chapel Service – November 14, 2025

The PK1 class led this morning’s chapel service. Miss Wong, with the help of representatives from her class, led the pledges, O Canada and the Lord’s Prayer. Afterwards, the students engaged in musical worship with two songs that they clearly enjoyed singing – “Power Shuffle” and “I Might Be Small”.

Mrs. Lau shared today’s message. She did it through three experiments. First, she asked Miss Law to be her volunteer. She asked her to come up and sit on a chair. Miss Law followed the instructions. When Mrs. Lau asked her why she obeyed, she replied, “You asked me to and the chair looked stable.” Next, Mrs. Lau asked Miss Law to close her eyes and she led her around. Miss Law did not have any problems following. Finally, Mrs. Lau asked Miss Law to keep her eyes closed and follow her voice. Miss Law cooperated and was successful following her around the room. Mrs. Lau then told the students that the purpose of showing them this “experiment” was to show them that God is just like what they witnessed. He asks us to trust in Him and to obey. He will not fail us. He keeps us safe. We can hear him when we open our hearts and ears.

The next demonstration involved oranges. Mrs. Lau put a peeled one in a bowl of water and it sank right away. When a student volunteer put a whole one with the skin on into the water, it floated! Mrs. Lau explained that God’s presence is like the skin of the orange. It’s like God’s Armour. It will protect us and help us stay afloat. We cannot do it by ourselves. God is our shield and will hold us up.

The last experiment was the most amazing. Mrs. Lau walked around with a full cup of water. Then she took out a piece of cardboard and put it over the cup. When she turned it over, the water did not leak out. When she removed her hand, the cup stayed sealed! After a few moments, she removed the cardboard and the water spilled into the plastic tub underneath. She explained that God is like that piece of cardboard. If you take Him away, your life will fall apart!

To bring it all together, Mrs. Lau shared that we need to trust in God, have faith and have courage to stand up for Him. She then showed a music video about the story of David and Goliath. David trusted in God. He had faith in God’s deliverance, and he had courage to stand up for the Lord.

To end the service, Mrs. Lau asked a student volunteer to lead the closing prayer with her. They thanked God and asked for His courage to be with us.
