Our Toddler 2 class was responsible for the ELC chapel service this morning. After the pledges, O Canada and the Lord’s Prayer, Ms. Wu launched into musical worship with two songs – “My God is So Big” and ” I Will Trust You, God”.
Ms. Wu’s started her message with a question about whether anyone has felt so angry or frustrated that they are ready to pop? She admitted that she has. So, she demonstrated that by blowing up a balloon and popping it with a skewer (after she forewarned the children to cover their ears).

Next, she shared the comforting words taken from Isaiah 43.:2 and explained that Jesus is with us in difficult times and can provide the peace that we need. This was reinforced by showing a short video clip of the story “Jesus Calms the Storm” taken from Mark 4. Even though we may be surrounded by a storm, Jesus has the power to calm storms and bring us peace.

To emphasize the point about Jesus’s power and peace, Ms. Wu did an experiment. She blew up a new balloon and took out another skewer. However, this time, she dipped the skewer in oil and said that the oil is like Jesus. He protects, has amazing power and is in control. With the oil dipped skewer, she was able to puncture the balloon without popping it!
Then, she played a song called “There’s Nothing That Our God Can’t Do” by Worship Together Kids.

Before she concluded, she had time to do the experiment again with the help of a volunteer. It also allowed her to emphasize the main points of her message:
- Pray when you feel pressure. Tell God exactly how you feel. He listens.
- Remember He’s with you. Even when you don’t fee it. His promise still stands.
- Trust that He’s in control. Just like the balloon didn’t pop, your story isn’t over. God is holding you together.
To end the service, Ms. Wu prayed, thanking Jesus that He is with us even when things are hard and asking Him to help us trust Him more each day.
