At the end of each month, one class or grade at Wesley leads the effort to raise funds or collect items to help a charity in our local or global community. This event is called “Care & Share Day”. Different charities are chosen to represent diverse projects in order to give our students awareness of local and global needs and to help them realize that effort from children and youth can make a difference. More importantly, we want to encourage them to participate with a loving and servant heart.
This month, for Care and Share, the Grade 5’s decided to support City Street Outreach by collecting mittens and gloves for unhoused children and adults. After announcing their intent during the elementary chapel service on January 16th, they distributed empty baskets to each of the classrooms. Students started bringing in their donations the following Monday.

On Wednesday, January 28th, the Grade 5’s went to each classroom to collect the baskets and record how many pairs of mittens/ gloves each class had collected. A big shout out goes to Grade 3B for collecting the most mittens with 32 pairs! In total, the school collected 458 pairs!

After counting the items, the Grade 5’s sorted them for adults and those for children. Then, they were all packed into plastic bags for pick up by City Street Outreach on Thursday.
Thank you so much for supporting our Grade 5 students who took the lead in helping vulnerable members of our community stay warm during the cold weather!
