Today’s ELC Chapel Service – January 23, 2026

The JK1 class led this morning’s ELC chapel. Ms. Faris used a microphone to help representatives from her class introduce each segment of the pledges, O Canada and the Lord’s Prayer.

Mrs. Dover and several other JK1 students led the musical worship which consisted of four songs – “My God is So Big”, “Making Melodies in My Heart”, “I Might be Small But My God is Big” and “Won’t Worry ’bout a Thing”.

As Mrs. Dover prepared for her message, she remarked that all four of the songs that they had just sung were about worries. Then, she started sharing some of the things that we might be worried about such as

  • “What will my new class or my new teacher be like?”
  • “What if I can’t do it?”
  • “What if no one likes me?”
  • “What if no one is nice to me tomorrow?”
  • “What if I forget something?”
  • “What if I don’t understand it?”

Each of those worries were written on a label and attached to a rock. As she shared each one, she put the stone into a backpack. After going through a bucket full of rocks, she zipped up the backpack and put it on. It was heavy. Mrs. Dover explained that when we are burdened with such heavy worries, we can turn to God. We can pray and share our worries with God because He cares. He is always there to listen and to help. Moreover, He has the power to take away our worries!

To reinforce this message, Mrs. Dover showed a story about Hazel the Hedgehog called Hazel’s Heavy Backpack – When I Feel Anxious. In the story, Hazel felt the burden of her worries. They were like stones in her backpack. However, her mother taught her that each of those worries can be named, placed on a “cloud” and given to Jesus, who takes it away. He loves each of us and is strong enough to overcome all of it!

To end the service, Mrs. Dover asked the students to pray with her. She thanked God that we can approach Him with our worries and expressed gratitude to Him for always being there for us.
