Tuesday and Wednesday were very busy days at Wesley. Not only were there soccer tryouts taking place in the morning, there were auditions for this year’s Christmas performance, An Out of the Box Christmas. Approximately 150 students in the elementary division auditioned to be part of the cast and/or dance troupe.
As our Christmas show will be a musical, auditioning students had to memorize and deliver a choice of two out of three sets of lines from the play. They also had to sing a song of their choice for 30-45 seconds.
For the dance troupe auditions, Ms. Romeo led a warm up and asked students to do basic skips, gallops, and to follow a simple dance and clap routine. A number of teachers watched groups of students to determine how well they listened to instructions and whether they demonstrated enthusiasm and interest. Ms. Romeo explained that she was not necessarily looking for students who had the highest kicks or biggest jumps but those who listened, followed instructions and genuinely wanted to be there. For those in Grade 5-8, she also took note of students who took ballet and/or had special skills. Some students demonstrated cartwheels, aerials, jumps, and other dance and gymnastic abilities.

Next week, teachers will be busy organizing those interested in joining the Primary and Senior Choirs. Both choirs will also be part of the show. We look forward to seeing how the choirs, cast and dance troupe come together at the end of November for an amazing performance! In the meantime, enjoy the photos from the dance audition.
