In Grade 5 French, students completed a unit titled “Au café!” Students learned a new set of vocabulary, practiced dialogue between a server and customers, and mastered conjugation of the verb “choisir” and regular -ir verbs. As a culminating project, the grade 5 classes hosted a café, complete with les serveurs, la nourriture et les boissons! The students designed menus and painted Parisian inspired murals.
To prepare for a work day at the café, students spent hours rehearsing dialogue. The grade 5 classes worked in small groups to welcome their customers, the grades 1-8 classes. The students took turns greeting customers, taking food and beverage orders, serving, and then cleaning up – en français bien sûr! Elementary students and staff visited Cafe des merveilles and enjoyed some freshly baked treats and cold refreshing beverages.
