We often hear that “an apple a day will keep the doctor away.”
In PK2, our “apple theme” proved that an apple can do much more than that. Apples became tools for scientific discovery, math exploration, literacy development, sensory play, and even cooking experiences. Students used their senses to observe, compare, and investigate, all while engaging in creative expression and hands on learning. What began as a simple fruit quickly transformed into meaningful experiences.
Our young scientists explored apples inside and out. They examined the core, seeds, skin, and stem, and noticed differences in color, size, and shape. They used measuring cubes to compare heights and a scale to weigh the apples. Vibrant illustrations helped them discuss apple anatomy and the life cycle, bringing science to life in a tangible way.

Art extraordinaires in PK2 had fun making apple prints using real apples.

They also showed off their imaginations in the dramatic play area, which was set up as a fruit and vegetable market.

Healthy eating was highlighted with a visit from Donna from Costco. She also taught the children how to make applesauce. The students loved tasting the results of their efforts, the fruits of their labor!
Our apple theme week was a great success. It was more than just delicious, it was packed with learning across every subject.
Here’s a peek at the photos that capture all the amazing discoveries our PK2 scientists-in-training made during apple theme week!
