Glimpse Into A Classroom – SK2: Autumn and Thanksgiving

Over the past two weeks, our class has learned about and enjoyed autumn and Thanksgiving themes. The students explored the outdoors, including a nature walk around the school. They learned about their environment, collected different coloured leaves, and discussed their shapes.

This past week, the students thoroughly enjoyed learning about the early settlers who arrived in Canada. To enhance the Thanksgiving story, we used a diorama of a pilgrim and flashcards. Mrs. Chioconi brought in life-sized turkey decoys and a real turkey caller, which allowed us to listen to the various ways turkeys communicate. The sounds we heard included “yelp,” “purr,” “yelp flight-down,” “fighting purr,” and “gobble.”

In addition, we carved a pie pumpkin, removed its seeds, and planted them in pots so we could observe their growth in the coming weeks.

After discussing all the traditional Thanksgiving foods, the students enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by the Wesley kitchen staff this year!

Finally, students had the opportunity to express their gratitude by writing what they were thankful for on our classroom drawing sheet. We are truly grateful for the many blessings in our lives! The students were also reminded of the ultimate Giver of all good gifts: our gracious and loving Heavenly Father.

Happy Thanksgiving! Have a wonderful long weekend!
