Glimpse Into A Classroom: Toddler 2 – Animal Theme Learning Journey

Our Toddler 2 children had a joyful and engaging time exploring the theme of Animals. Through stories, music, sensory play, art, and hands-on activities, the children were introduced to different animals while developing their language, sensory awareness, fine motor skills, and early cognitive concepts.

We began our animal journey with the storybook “If You’re Happy and You Know It”, a sing- along action book by Jane Cabrera. The teacher guided the children to observe and imitate the movements of different animals shown in the book. Animal toys were then introduced to help the children learn the names of various animals. To extend the learning, the children participated in a sensory integration activity. A sensory box filled with feathers, green shredded paper, and animal toys was prepared to simulate a forest environment. The toddlers explored the materials using their senses, enhancing their curiosity and sensory development.

To introduce monkeys, the teacher played monkey sounds and encouraged the children to guess which animal they were hearing. After revealing pictures of monkeys, the children learned about their appearance and their living habits. The learning continued with an art activity, where the children used brown watercolor to create monkey artwork using their handprints. This activity helped strengthen fine motor skills and allowed the children to express creativity.

The children also explored lions through an art activity using forks and yellow paint. By creating lion manes with different textures, the toddlers experienced new painting techniques while improving hand-eye coordination.

To spark curiosity, the teacher played various animal sounds and invited the children to identify and observe animal puzzles. The toddlers carefully examined the puzzle pieces and worked on completing them, developing problem-solving skills and concentration.

Elephants were introduced through sound as well. After listening to the elephant’s call, the teacher used elephant toys to explain their physical features. The focus of the day was on size—big, medium, and small. The teacher demonstrated the size differences using real objects, and the children practiced sorting and arranging elephants according to size.

The children were also excited to learn about zebras. After listening to zebra sounds, the teacher introduced zebra toys and discussed their appearance and living habits. For the creative activity, the children made their own zebra artwork by sticking black paper strips onto zebra templates, enhancing their fine motor control and creativity.

Furthermore, the children explored animal shadows. The teacher used a flashlight and animal toys to create shadows for observation. The toddlers then participated in a shadow-matching activity, encouraging visual discrimination and critical thinking.

Through these rich and meaningful experiences, our Toddler 2 children enjoyed discovering the animal world in a fun and interactive way. We hope you enjoy seeing their learning journey and creativity through these wonderful moments!
