Glimpse Into A Leadership Team: Recess Equipment Team

Each day, Recess Equipment Leaders work hard to make recess fun and safe for the students at Wesley Christian Academy. Recess is always more fun with balls and other equipment to play with, and we have four bins of equipment (basketballs, soccer balls, playground balls, footballs, and volleyballs) that come out at recess. We also have some small baskets of jump ropes, tennis balls and chalk.

Recess Equipment Leaders help the teachers each day by bringing equipment out of the shed at the beginning of recess. They are the only students who are allowed to go in the equipment shed, because they have been trained to know what bins and baskets to bring out. Elementary students share the shed with the SK classes and the after school groups so it’s important that our Recess Equipment Leaders take out the right equipment.

At the end of recess, these same leaders hear the whistle and get right to work. They have just a few minutes to quickly sort the equipment into the proper bins and baskets. Then they carry those bins and baskets into the shed so that our equipment is protected from the weather till the next recess. They sign their attendance sheet on a clipboard in the shed to say that they have done their job. This also allows them to leave notes for Mrs. Bolton if balls need to be pumped or if they notice any safety issues.

Our Recess Equipment leaders are hardworking students in Grades 4-8 who show servant leadership, no matter what the weather. They work in teams of three and serve one day each week. They are often the last students to go in for lunch because they are working hard till the last minute. They demonstrate CRISP character traits like Servant Leadership and Perseverance. We are so proud of how hard they serve their friends and fellow Wesley students each day!
