Yesterday morning, our grade six students had the opportunity to participate in their first “field trip” of the year – and it was to serve others! Using the donations brought in from October’s Care & Share, our grade six classes once again were able to carry on the tradition of shopping for toys for less fortunate children this Christmas. These toys will be organized and distributed through CTV/The Salvation Army’s Toy Mountain campaign. Wesley was able to make a contribution through your generous donation of $1,435.35 that was put towards the purchase of many, many toys!
Students were in groups and each had a job to do, whether that be pushing the cart, using a calculator to keep track of their group total, writing the toys and costs down on a clipboard, or lining up at the check-out to put their purchases into bags. Their excitement and desire to spend the money wisely and to use their choices to bless others this Christmas was wonderful to see!
Our grade six classes are also very thankful to Toys R Us, who very kindly opened their store 30 minutes before the mall regular opening hours to allow our students a safe environment to shop.
After the shopping trip, the students took their purchases to the Toy Mountain collection bin on the ground floor of Markville Mall. Before returning to school, the grade 6 classes stopped at the food court and enjoyed a snack and/or beverage.
Thank you for your contributions that allowed our students to have this unique opportunity. Your donations and our student’s efforts will certainly make a difference for many families this Christmas.
