National Truth and Reconciliation Day at Wesley – September 30, 2025

On Tuesday, September 30th, we wore orange to recognize the harm that residential schools caused, and to stand with Indigenous communities. Each class had lessons about Truth & Reconciliation Day. We listened and learned. Many classes read about Phyllis Webstad and her Orange Shirt Story, and other books related to Truth & Reconciliation Day.

In each grade, students did different activities to show their learning and to engage with Orange Shirt Day. The grade two classes created a Heart Garden to honour the children lost and the survivors of residential schools.

Other classes designed their own special orange shirts and posters with the message “Every Child Matters.”

The grade five classes used a writing prompt to incite change, while one of the grade six classes created a large collaborative poster together.

One of the grade three classes looked at some rights of children (United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child) and discussed the importance of children being safe and having a name and a family.

The grade eight classes delved deep. One grade eight class created haikus based on those same rights, while the other class focussed on presentations with Calls to Action.

Thank you to our Wesley community for standing with Indigenous communities and demonstrating the love of Christ in meaningful ways.
