On Thursday afternoon, we celebrated our Senior Kindergarten students at their graduation from Wesley Christian Academy. Mrs. Scott opened the ceremony by welcoming the honoured guests and announcing the names of the teachers of our two kindergarten classes. This was followed by the entrance of our SK1 and SK2 students, each walking confidently into the packed gym filled with proud family and friends, as the ceremonial music of Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance played.

As the students reached the stage, the SK1 class ascended to fill the platform. When the SK2 class arrived, they lined the front of the gym. Once everyone was in position, a few of the SK1 students asked the audience to stand and led them through the pledges, recitation of the Lord’s Prayer, and the singing of O Canada. This is how they started each school day at Wesley, and they wanted to start their special ceremony the same way.

After the pledges, the SK2 class quietly filed to their seats to the right of the stage while the SK1 students prepared to sing “When I Grow Up”. It was introduced by several members of the class, who wondered about what they will be when they grow up. However, they concluded that no matter what they do when they get older, they can learn to love God and do what is right, just like Jesus did as he “…grew in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man (Luke 2:52)”.

After the beautiful performance, a video was shown of each SK1 student writing their name in cursive writing. This short display was just enough time for the SK1 class to quietly transition off the stage and for the SK2 class to ascend it.
Several members of the SK2 class introduced their song, “The Miracles of Jesus”. They shared that their class had been learning about the miracles of Jesus—how He healed, helped, and showed God’s great power, but most of all, they learned about the greatest miracle—how Jesus died and rose again to give us new life!

After their fantastic action packed performance, a video of the SK2 class writing their names in cursive writing was shown to transition them off the stage and back to the seats. This made way for the most anticipated part of the celebration – the diploma ceremony!
Our SK1 class received their diplomas first from their teachers – Mrs. Kaske and Ms. Chung. This was followed by Mrs. Li, Mrs. Wu and Mrs. Chioconi’s SK2 class. As each student was announced, Mrs. Scott shared some small facts about the individual and the profession they aspire to have in the future. As you can imagine, there were some expected choices such as policemen, fire fighters, doctors, teachers, professional athletes and astronauts. However, a few chose the careers of their parents and one even declared that she wanted to be a “mommy with three kids”. Each student walked across the stage gracefully, shook their teacher’s hand, accepted their diploma and posed for a photo! Kudos to the graduates and their teachers for all the hard work and practices that went into preparing for this moment.

Wesley Principal, Mrs. Serio, then said a few closing remarks and prayed for the graduates before they tossed their caps to mark the end of their SK journey and their next steps to Grade 1 !

Congratulations, Wesley Christian Academy’s SK Class of 2026! May God’s grace and peace go with you!
