Special Visitor at Toddler 2’s “Wesley General Hospital”

For the past several weeks, the Toddler 2 class has been learning about community helpers such as postal workers, fire fighters, doctors and dentists. This morning, each student had their “doctor” name badges on and welcomed their special guest, Dr. Mariam Ragheb, an emergency room physician, to “Wesley General Hospital”.

Dr. Ragheb gently introduced herself and asked whether any of the students had been to their own doctor’s office for a check-up. Many hands went up. She shared that she works at a hospital where she performs check-ups for both kids and adults. After quickly gaining the interest and attention of the children, Dr. Ragheb began to show them different “tools” that a doctor might use. She had an under-the-arm thermometer, tongue depressor, otoscope, stethoscope, tensor bandage & sling, gauze sponges, gloves and protective glasses. Throughout her presentation, she involved many eager volunteers. Some of the items were also passed around for the students to touch and feel.

At the end of the visit, Dr. Ragheb showed the students some Paw Patrol and Mickey Mouse band aids. She will be sending a few home with each child in case they are needed in the future.

At Wesley, we are extremely grateful for volunteers who take the time out of their busy day to help us in various capacities. Not only do the students benefit from the knowledge that is shared but also from witnessing that there are strong role models who are willing to serve and share with others. These individuals are people in our community whom they can look up to and appreciate.
