Our Student Worship Team led this morning’s elementary chapel service. After the national anthem, the Lord’s Prayer and the Land Acknowledgement, the Worship Team launched into musical worship with “Prince of Peace (You are Holy)”, a popular song with different parts for boys and girls. This was followed by “Holy Forever”, a song that reflects Revelation 4, where the worship of God is eternal. The students filled the entire gym with praise, especially during the chorus.

Next, the Grade 2A class presented their Bible Verse Recitation, after a brief introduction from three class representatives. They shared that they have been learning about “The Great Commission” and how it is important not just to show God’s love but to TELL others about it. The class then sang a song about the Great Commission and recited Matthew 28:19-20.

After the presentation, two Grade 4 students took the opportunity to give out the “Golden Dustpan Award” to the class that kept their hallway, coat hooks and rack area the neatest for the months of February and March. This special recognition was awarded to Grade 8A!

Students then stood up to sing “He’s Got the Whole World In His Hands”, which is a well known traditional hymn about God’s sovereignty, care, and absolute control over all creation. Then, it was followed by “Oceans”, a worship song about stepping out of comfort zones to trust God amid uncertainty.
Next, Miss Luk was invited for the “Teacher Interview” as part of our wrap up on the sub-theme “Armour Up with Salvation”. She shared her salvation story with the students. As she was raised in a Christian family, she grew up following the routine that her parents set for her – church, Sunday School, fellowship, VBS, etc. Her actions were more about her parents’ relationship with God than her own. In high school, she began to question and seek answers about God. While attending Teens Conference, she finally felt like her relationship with God was her own, so she answered the altar call and accepted Christ into her heart. She was baptized after her first year at university.

Then, Miss Luk spent some time answering how she wears the helmet of salvation each day. She started by telling the students that she reminds herself of who she is in Christ and how He paid the penalty for her sins. She also shared that she reads Scripture everyday, does her best to submit to His will and repents when she has done wrong. Her advice to those who find it hard to choose to wear the helmet of Salvation is threefold:
- Look at the Cross and remember what Jesus did for you – He died for your sake but He conquered death!
- Fix your thoughts on God – He will help you through things.
- Pray for protection at the start and end of each day.
After Miss Luk’s sharing, the Worship Team Leaders welcomed Mr. MacLean. As he made his way to the front, the students gave him a warm round of applause. Mr. MacLean, a long time teacher at Wesley from 2001-2023, came to visit 1000 days after leaving Ontario for PEI. He thanked the students for praying for him and his family, especially during the first two years after his departure. God has called him to continue to be a teacher but also a counsellor at a Christian School in PEI.

In response to the sharing from the two teachers, the students sang “Living Hope” with genuine praise and worship, especially during the chorus. To wrap up, the audience read the benediction before heading off to start their academic day.
