This morning’s chapel service was led by Chapel Team 1. After the singing of the national anthem, the recitation of The Lord’s Prayer, and listening to the Land Acknowledgement, the team led the audience in singing “Amazing Love” – a song about God’s amazing love for us to the point of sending His Son to die in our place.

Representatives from our Grade 2 classes then made this month’s Care & Share announcement for Toronto City Mission. Established in 1879, it is Toronto’s oldest and longest running outreach to people impacted by poverty. Some of the many programs that it runs include after school care, teen leadership and summer camps. Next week, Wesley students will be writing general cards of encouragement to children in the Toronto City Mission programs. Students are asked to bring a small monetary donation to support this cause on Thursday, February 26th.

It’s been a few weeks since there was a review of the entire Armour of God so the leaders asked their fellow students to fill in the blank when each piece was mentioned. We are happy to share that the students were very successful!
Next, dressed as Sir Learns-a-lot, Mrs. V galloped into the gym while trumpets announced her arrival. With great enthusiasm, she led the review of the theme verse from Ephesians 6:10 and launched into this week’s sub-theme, Armour up with Salvation!

Then, the students watched a short but hilarious video put on by Wesley teachers to recount the story of Paul and Silas who had been jailed for healing a young slave girl with an evil spirit.

After the video, Chapel Team 1 led the singing of “Jesus, Friend of Sinners”.
Mrs. V then reviewed how Paul and Silas armoured up with the Armour of God. She explained that Paul and Silas knew the TRUTH that Jesus came to save people from their sins and were intentionally sharing this with others. They saw that the slave girl they met in Philippi was being mistreated. When Paul and Silas healed her, they chose to stand up for JUSTICE and do what was right in God’s eyes, Even though they. were sent to prison, they praised God and had PEACE in their hearts that God was in control. They also had FAITH in God’s love and God’s plan the whole time. When the earthquake took place, they chose to stay in prison and used that opportunity to bring SALVATION to the guard and his entire family.
Chapel Team 1 then led everyone to sing an upbeat version of “Jesus Loves Me”.

After the song, using Bible verses to support her message, Mrs. explained that we can Armour with Salvation like Paul and Silas by being CRISP! She pointed out that Paul and Silas had COMPASSION on the slave girl and on the jailer. They also showed RESPECT to the jail guard, making him aware that there was something very different about them in the way that they responded to their circumstances. Paul and Silas also demonstrated INTEGRITY in their behaviour after the earthquake and the prison doors were opened. Paul and Silas also saw opportunities to demonstrate a SERVANT’s HEART by choosing to help the slave girl, be an encouragement to the other prisoners and not running away from prison as they knew the guard would be punished for their escape. Lastly, Paul and Silas demonstrated PERSEVERANCE when they were put in jail and beaten. They were still joyful in their circumstances and praised God.
To conclude the service, Chapel Team 1 led the recitation of the benediction before being dismissed to start the academic day.
