Today’s Chapel Service – May 3, 2024

Our Chapel Team led this morning’s service, starting with the pledges, The Lord’s Prayer, O Canada and the Land Acknowledgement. Before the first song, Mr. Bailey asked the students to recite our theme verse taken from Mark 12:30. Our students then sang the verse theme with energetic actions.

One of our Chapel Team Leaders read from Proverbs 4:23, which is about guarding our hearts. Mr. Bailey used this verse to spotlight one of our past speakers, Luke Goh (WCA Class of 2015), who is working for Toronto City Mission as an urban missionary. Mr. Bailey pointed out that Luke is not doing something that his peers are doing. It is hard work and not a popular choice. However, Luke is following his heart – his love for God and demonstrating his passion for following Jesus.

A second Bible verse was read by another Chapel Leader from Deuteronomy 10:12. With this verse, Mr. Bailey recounted a recent message from Jake Wilson, aka “Captain”. He spoke about how life is like pizza slices and we tend to act differently with each “slice” / role that we have. However, no matter what role we have, we need to act consistently in a way that honours God. This integrity is integral to your soul.

After these two recaps about loving the Lord with our heart and soul by demonstrating passion for God and living a life of integrity, the audience sang “Gratitude” and “Lead Me To the Cross”. At various points in both songs, the gym was completely filled with sincere praise to our God.

Next, we had a Wesley Wildfire Sports update from Mr. Au, who reported how the seniors performed at the ACSI Senior Co-Ed Badminton Tournament last Thursday. Our team placed in each of the four categories – Boys Singles, Girls Singles, Girls Doubles, Boys Doubles and Co-Ed Doubles. Overall, Wesley finished in 3rd place. For the Encourager Award, Mr. Au explained that absolute silence is required in badminton so no overt cheering or clapping is permitted. This prevented an obvious choice for the Encourager Award. However, the coaches decided to recognize one student who showed her enthusiasm and knowledge of the sport by leading drills and sharing her experiences with the team. For these reasons, she was recognized with the award.

Following the sports update, there was a house team update. With only two more months of school left, Fry House is in the lead with Osborne close behind! Everyone was encouraged to keep working hard to earn more points for their teams before the end of the school year!

Another Chapel Leader then read a passage from Proverbs 2:6 about wisdom. This allowed Mr. Bailey to recap a message from Pastor Stephanie who talked about how God doesn’t change, is faithful and is always present. WIth God’s continuous presence in our lives, we can use our minds and any wisdom gained from God’s grace to make better choices.

Lastly, another Chapel Leader read from Colossians 3:23 about working hard as if it is for the Lord. This led to Mr. Bailey’s recount of Mrs. Vant Erve’s recent message about Nehemiah’s perseverance. Nehemiah relied on God for wisdom and strength, which allowed him to do the hard work before him.

One final song was sang after Mr. Bailey’s recount. He asked four Grade 8 students to help the Chapel Team lead the actions to “Every Move I Make”.

Mr. Bailey ended the service in prayer, thanking God for Jesus and asking Him to help us love Him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength so that we can live our lives with passion, integrity, wisdom and hard work.
