Today’s service was led by our chapel teachers. After the singing of O Canada, the recitation of The Lord’s prayer, and the playing of the Land Acknowledgement, we launched into our first worship song – “One Way”.
Mrs. V took on a new role as “Lady Loves-to-Learn” to review our theme, theme verse and to lead the reading of several passages supporting our focus to “Armour Up with Truth”.

The chapel teachers then led the singing of “Little by Little” and led a prayer asking our Heavenly Father to help us put on the full armour of God. This was followed by the introduction of our guest speaker, Pastor Jake Wilson – aka “Captain” from Willow Springs Camp.

Captain’s message started with a recount of a personal and amusing story that took place when he was 10 years old. In this tale, he disobeyed his Aunt Steph’s request and was found out. In a rhetorical manner, Captain asked the audience about what he should have done instead. Telling the truth was the correct answer but at what point in the story should he have confessed and told the truth? Captain then transitioned to the phrase “The truth will set you free…” He used the passage from John 8:12-47 to provide context for today’s message. Captain dove into the passage and shared how Jesus explained He is the Light of the World. From there, he concluded that the Truth in the expression “the truth will set you free” is really Jesus. Jesus will set us free, when we confess our sins. He is our ultimate freedom, as we are all slaves to sin. Before he ended his message, he refocused the audience back to his Aunt Steph. He explained that we all need people in our lives to support our walk with Christ, encourage us and call us out when we do something that is not pleasing to God. Aunt Steph was someone like that for Captain. He also shared that we need to actively follow the objective truth of Jesus, as He is the Light of the World and the only way to the Truth.

Mrs. V then ended the service by sharing that she also knew Captain’s Aunt Steph, who not only loved Jesus but reflected it to everyone she met on a daily basis. Mrs. V then challenged the students to think about how they can make others feel loved and appreciated, and how they can live out their lives with the truth from knowing and loving Jesus.
Chapel concluded with the recitation of the benediction.
