Today’s Chapel Services – December 8, 2023

Our Chapel Team led this morning’s pledges, The Lord’s Prayer, O Canada, and the Land Acknowledgement.

We started our service with a Wesley Wildfire Sports Update. Earlier in the fall, 48 of our students participated in the ACSI Cross Country meet. Although individual awards had already been handed out, the team ribbons still had to be given. Three of our teams finished in fourth place – Grade 3/4 Girls, Grade 3/4 Boys and Grade 5/6 Girls. We also had one student win third place amongst all the Grade 7 students that raced that day!

Next, our three volleyball teams were recognized. This was the first time that our Junior Co-Ed, Senior Girls, and Senior Boys teams have all won the championship in one sport! For the Encourager Awards, the Junior Co-Ed Team recognized two players in Grade 5. For the Senior Girls, a Grade 8 student was acknowledged but she was absent today. For the Senior Boys, a student in Grade 8B was given the Encourager Medal. Well done, Wesley!

Also included in this morning’s service was our December Care & Share announcement. Four Grade 8 students shared that money collected on Monday, December 18th, will be for the Salvation Army. The Grade 8s will be going on two separate days next week to the Salvation Army Distribution Centre to help unload and sort toys from all over York Region that have been donated to Toy Mountain. This could also include toys purchased by our Grade 6 students with the October Care & Share donations. The money raised on December 18th will be donated to the Salvation Army’s Christmas assistance program as well as their special program that helps send kids to various camps in the summer.

Our message this morning was the Christmas story, as told by our Chapel Leaders using passages from both the Old and New Testaments. This was cleverly tied in with various Christmas carols, which were particularly enjoyed by our younger students. Some even did actions as they sang the last song, “Go Tell it on the Mountain”.  At the end, Ms. Wong talked about the power of waiting and reminded the audience that God is always working behind the scenes. She encouraged us to wait faithfully and patiently, just like Mary and Joseph, as God unfolds His amazing plans for each of us. Mr. Bailey concluded in prayer asking God to help us look past the gifts, snow, and time off at Christmas, and to help us take time to honour and give thanks for the gift of Jesus.

This morning in our ELC chapel service, the SK1 class led the pledges, The Lord’s Prayer and O Canada. Mrs. Goco from PK2 opened with a word of prayer. The first worship song was “Hallelujah” and everyone was so excited – from Toddler 1 to SK1! The singing continued with “Give Me Oil in my Lamp” and “This Little Light of Mine”. Mrs. Goco also shared today’s message. She shared the story of how a mother, Jochebed, used a basket to save her son, Moses. Mrs. Goco captivated the students with the details of the story and emphasized the point that “God helps us!” They closed their service with the response song, “Awesome God!”
