The SK2 class led this morning’s ELC chapel service. Each young leader spoke clearly and took charge of their respective section without any prompting from the teacher for a seamless presentation.

Students then launched into musical worship with three songs – “For God So Loved the World”, “You Gave” and “Hosanna, Praise Is Rising” – and lots of actions!
Mrs. Chioconi then recounted the events of the Holy Week – from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday – using a variety of props and some creative storytelling. When she talked about Palm Sunday, she had palm leaves and shared how the crowds welcomed Jesus to Jerusalem as their Saviour, shouting “Hosanna”. Next, she explained that Jesus had to die to save us from our sins. She pointed to a cross with flowers hanging on the white board next to her.

As she pulled out a paper cut-out of Jesus, she wrapped the figure in some gauze, explaining that after Jesus died, they wrapped his body and put it in a tomb. She put the wrapped figure in an envelope with a picture of a tomb and showed that it was sealed to keep Jesus’s body safe.

Then, she put that sealed envelope in a larger yellow envelope that had pictures of two guards, who were tasked with guarding Jesus’s body. She put that envelope into a much bigger beige envelope.

Mrs. Chioconi then explained that there was an earthquake on Easter Sunday and an angel rolled back the tomb. The guards were so afraid that they fell down. Mrs. Chicoconi pulled out the yellow envelope with the guards on it but instead of standing, the guards were on the ground! Next, she opened the yellow envelope and pulled out the envelope with the tomb but this time, the seal was broken!

When she opened the envelope with the tomb, all that was inside was the piece of gauze! The figure of Jesus was not in the envelope! Many of the students were quite amazed and puzzled how it all happened!

Mrs. Chioconi explained that Jesus is alive and showed the cut out figure on the front of the big beige envelope! Jesus rose again so that we can have everlasting life!

What an amazing and age appropriate way to share the Good News of Christ’s sacrifice and resurrection! To respond to this message, the students sang “Jesus Came Up”. The entire SK2 class then went to the front and sang “I Wanna Be Like Jesus” for the ELC audience. Mrs. Chioconi then concluded the service in prayer, thanking God for the gift of His Son and asking Jesus to help us be like Him – to be loving, kind and gentle.
