The Toddler 2 class led our ELC chapel service this morning. After the pledges, O Canada and the Lord’s Prayer, Miss Savoula led a time of musical worship, beginning with the classic children’s song, “Read Your Bible, Pray Every Day”. The Toddler 2 class gathered at the front to do some of the actions together. The other two songs, “Grow, Grow, Grow” by Jana Alayra and “God Makes Things Grow” by The Donut Man, were fantastic introductions to Miss Savoula’s message about “Growing”.

There were two main sections to today’s lesson. First, Miss Savoula held up an empty flower pot and asked about the things that plants need to grow. Students responded with the following answers – soil, seeds, water and sunlight. – and proceeded to the front to help with the demonstration. After talking about plant growth, Miss Savoula asked the students about their growth. Using a volunteer from her Toddler 2 class, she pulled out plastic food items from a shopping basket such as milk, bananas, meat, etc.

After the discussion about physical growth, Miss Savoula talked about “growing your heart to be like Jesus”. She suggested actions such as showing love and kindness to others as well as reading the Bible and praying everyday. These concepts were reinforced with an entertaining but meaningful video that explained how we need to continue to grow spiritually just as we do physically. When we are young, we are like babies and have to be fed. But as we get older, we should learn to feed ourselves. Then, we even help feed others. Similarly, when we are first learning about God, others help us and things start simply. However, as we mature, we can learn to read and study the Bible ourselves with the help of the Holy Spirit. Eventually, we can also share the Good News with others!

Miss Savoula ended the service in prayer, thanking God for making all things grow – including the flowers, trees, and plants, and asking Him to bless our bodies and spirits as we grow.
